I think these are all beautiful dresses... perfect for a red carpet event or a formal affair, but not so much for a bride on her wedding day. Maybe I'm just traditional and not too fashion-forward, but I wouldn't wear a black wedding dress.

I do like seeing black incorporated into a wedding, though -- like Pink's black sash on her Monique Lhuillier gown or having your bridesmaids' dresses be black. I think the farthest "non-traditional" thing I would do is wear a colored wedding dress -- and even with that, I'm not so sure.

What do you guys think of black wedding dresses -- do or don't?

  1. I've always been of the mindset that: It's the brides day. She can wear whatever she wants. I have an array of colors I've thought about wearing on my wedding day (if I ever get one!) instead of white. Then again, I'm no traditionalist ;)

  5. Laura Ingalls Wilder wore a black dress on her wedding day. I guess you can wear what you want. My Mom's wedding was close to Christmas so she wore a burgundy dress. She had a friend who married a couple of days before Christmas..she wore a red dress. I had a cousin who married on the beach and she wore a bikini. So there are all sorts of attire out there.

These are Vera Wang..so I'm sure you'd be proud to wear them anytime.

  6. Hmm, i definitely think that black wedding dresses are a don't. It's just not right for a bride to be wearing black on her wedding day. although i like dress #5. :D

  9. I know a couple of people who married in October and did the whole Halloween theme. It just depends on the Bride and situation. I think they are GORGEOUS! But I personally wouldn't want them as a wedding dress. If I was going to a halloween ball or something, I would definitely wear it. Love Vera Wang!!! Thanks for sharing, because I wasn't aware of this.

  11. these dresses are very beautiful, but not for wedding dresses. Maybe I´m oldfashioned, but I think wedding dress should be white.

  12. SassyUptownChic-- yeeaahh, i was thinking the same thing! it would be perfect if it's a halloween-themed wedding. and for a halloween ball, these would be awesome! :)

SassyAgapi-- hahaha, yeah, they need more work in the hair department. ;)

Miss L-- me too, i am old fashioned when it comes to that. ;)

  23. I'm always open to trying new things when it comes to fashion, but even if I have a bit of an eclectic style I don't see myself wearing a black wedding gown. In my opinion, black is just too dark. I love these dresses though. :D

My faves are the 1st and 6th dress.

  24. Bree-- great picks! and yeah, i think it's a bit too harsh of a color to use as a wedding dress. :/

  25. those are beautiful dresses!
    I love the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th! lol
yah, I wouldn't really want to wear black
to a wedding, and I'm Chinese so that would
be quite horrible to the elderly >< and your
wedding should convey happiness and lightness =p

  26. Peiji-- haha, oh gosh yeah, imagine what they would say?! ;) great picks, btw!

  27. Interesting! Glad you posted these pics... I hadn't seen them yet! I love the dresses and I LOVE black, but I wouldn't wear a black wedding dress. I changed dresses for my reception and added a black sash - to my already black Louboutins, and my bridesmaids wore black dresses.... that's how I did black :) A couple of wedding posts are on my blog if you wanna check it out!

  28. Lindsay-- i love how you incorporated black into your wedding. that's the way i would do it too if i choose black as a color for my in-the-distant-future wedding. ;)

  31. Honestly I think a do! Especially of you’re getting married on Halloween! Not everyone goes for your traditional white dress, black should definitely be a an option too!
    Love the 2nd dress shown!

  32. Dizzy-- yeah, these are definitely perfect for a halloween wedding! ;)
